How can my abortion recovery program join the Texas Abortion Recovery Alliance?
If you already have trained leadership, you can join the Alliance. Call Rhonda- 713-419-1214 for a screening of your organization. If you do not have trained leadership, and you'd like to start a ministry, follow the leadership training steps. -
Is the Texas Abortion Recovery Alliance a religious organization?
No. TARA is a coalition of abortion recovery leaders who provide support in various environments. All the ministries are faith-based and God-centered. -
Where are the sessions held?
The sessions are held in private homes, offices and churches. When you call the recovery leader near you, she'll give you the exact location, time and start dates of her current program. -
Do I have to be a Christian or go to church?
No. You don't have to be a Christian to participate in the program. We understand that any feelings of guilt associated with abortion come from having transgressed one's own moral code. We seek to resolve the issues associated with abortion through biblical principles, and are confident with that you will renew your own spirituality through the healing process. -
I don't want people to know I'm doing this. Is TARA confidential?
We understand your need for privacy. Many women keep their abortion a secret for years. All information disseminated in the counseling sessions or in support groups will remain completely confidential. -
How can I lead a recovery group?
The Texas Abortion Recovery Alliance offers several training sessions throughout the year. Once you complete our training, you can begin to help others in your church, your home or other location. We'll provide ongoing support and referrals from this website. -
How much does the program cost?
Most affiliates do not charge for their services in weekly recovery sessions. You may be responsible for purchasing your workbook for about $15. For a Weekend Encounter, your pre-counsel sessions, your lodging and meals are covered in the $150 registration fee. -
Is this professional counseling?
TARA affiliates are not necessarily professional counselors. All are trained in basic counseling skills, and they understand the steps to abortion recovery. While some of our counselors do have experience or education in social work, pastoral or other professional counseling, TARA is NOT licensed therapy. -
Who are the leaders?
Our abortion recovery leaders are women just like yourself. Many have had abortions and have been through the recovery program and their lives have been changed. They want to help others find freedom, forgiveness, and renew their joy. Group leaders have been certified as abortion recovery leaders through TARA training programs.
